A flash flood washed away homes near the Indonesia–Malaysia border.

Dramatic footage shows a submerged house being carried away by floodwaters in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan Province, on Saturday afternoon, May 17.

Arif Budiman, Head of the Information Sub-Division at the Nunukan Regional Disaster Management Agency, said: 'The location of the flash flood is in the highlands, where communication and transportation access is very difficult. One of the impacts is that a house was swept away.'

Authorities reported the flooding forced at least 23 residents from six families across three villages to evacuate. The water level reportedly reached higher than a metre.

The Nunukan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) remains on high alert following a forecast from the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG), which predicts continued rainfall in the Nunukan area over the coming week.

The official added: 'We continue to monitor river conditions and are ready to anticipate further flooding.'
