Ādaži, Latvia - May 17, 2025 U.S. Army paratroopers from B Troop, 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade executed an airborne drop at Unity Drop Zone on May 17, 2025. The mission was part of Swift Response 2025, a major segment of DEFENDER 25, the U.S. Army’s largest annual exercise in Europe. DEFENDER 25 involves about 25,000 soldiers from 29 Allied and partner nations. The operation focuses on rapidly deploying forces and strengthening joint command structures. Training occurs across 15 countries during three overlapping exercises—Swift Response, Immediate Response, and Saber Guardian. The drop at Unity Drop Zone highlights the brigade’s ability to deploy swiftly and operate effectively with NATO Allies and partners. From May 11 to June 24, 2025, forces will integrate and expand multi-domain capabilities, reinforcing readiness and unity across Europe.
