Benasque, Spain - May 18, 2025 Two Murcian climbers aged 33 and 35 were rescued by the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Groups of the Huesca Civil Guard after becoming exhausted on Pico Espadas. The rescue involved the GREIM team from Benasque, the Huesca Air Unit, and a 061 medical doctor. The climbers alerted authorities when they could no longer continue their climb due to fatigue. They were found perched on a ridge of Pico Espadas in the Posets massif, one of the highest peaks in the Pyrenees at 3,332 meters. The rescuers evacuated the climbers by helicopter to the Benasque helipad, where they were able to leave on their own. The area still has large amounts of snow and low temperatures this time of year, making the climb especially difficult.
