A motorcycle rider collided with a truck, but landed safely by somersaulting into its trailer.

Shocking footage shows a white pickup truck making a U-turn in the middle of the road when a speeding motorcyclist crashed forcefully into it in Chiang Mai.

The impact launched the rider into the air but he landed directly in the back of the truck.

Unaware that someone was now lying in his vehicle, the truck driver continued driving a short distance before pulling over to check on the situation.

The motorcyclist was shaken but otherwise not seriously hurt following the collision on May 9.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
