An Israeli husband and his Thai wife were arrested for selling illegal magic mushrooms from their cannabis shop.

The couple reportedly supplied the drugs to visitors on 'White Lotus' island Koh Samui in southern Thailand.

They were arrested in a sting operation after an undercover agent posed as a customer to make a purchase on May 14.

The transaction was completed using marked 1,000 baht banknotes later found in the couple's possession.

Footage shows agitated Israeli husband Ben Malka, 29, denying the money was his as police surrounded the counter. His Thai wife, Bualoei Isan, 39, wearing the same store uniform, then emerged from a room to speak with the cops.

A flustered Ben said: 'It's good no? Why no good? Thai people told me it's legal, so I don't know. I want to be only good, I do only good things in Thailand. I never do bad things in Thailand.'

Police seized magic mushrooms from the store in two bags weighing 0.08 ounces (2.32 grams) and 2 ounces (58 grams), and in two jars weighing 8.7 ounces (247 grams) and 6.1 ounces (173 grams).

Deputy district chief Jiraphat Chuchan, who led the arrest, said: 'We seized the drugs and charged the couple with possessing narcotic category V with intent to sell and illegal distribution. They were handed over to the inquiry officer of the Bo Phut Police Station for further legal action.'

Magic mushrooms are a Category V narcotic under Thai law.

If convicted, the couple face penalties of up to two years of imprisonment, a fine up to 40,000 baht, or both.
