VARIOUS OF RESIDENTS LEAVING KHAN YOUNIS BY CARS, DONKEY CARTS, AND ON FOOT / VOLUNTEERS DISTRIBUTING DATES AND WATER FOR DISPLACED CIVILIANS ON ROADKHAN YOUNIS, GAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 20, 2025: Palestinians are fleeing eastern Khan Younis toward al-Mawasi as Israel intensifies its ground offensive in southern Gaza. Following an evacuation order from the Israeli army, civilians in eastern Khan Younis began to leave their homes and tents on Tuesday, May 20. Displaced Palestinians have relocated to the overcrowded al-Mawasi area in the western part of Khan Younis. On Sunday, the Israeli army announced the beginning of a broad ground offensive in the war-torn Gaza Strip. The Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 53,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
