Foreign Minister Assad Hassan Shaibani and his Jordanian counterpart Aiman al-Safadi met in the capital Damascus. Safadi was accompanied by the Jordanian ministers of Energy, Transport, Irrigation and Trade and Industry. Following the meeting, the two ministers held a joint press conference at Tishrin Palace. Emphasizing that the two countries face common security threats, Shaibani said, ‘We signed an agreement to establish a High Coordination Council to strengthen joint work that will serve the interests of the two countries.’ Stating that the lifting of sanctions against Syria will have a positive impact on the entire region, Shaibani said, ‘The lifting of sanctions against Syria will strengthen this cooperation (with Jordan) in transport, energy and all fields.’ Regarding Israel's attacks on Syrian territory, Shaibani said, ‘Israel's attacks on Syria threaten not only Syria but the entire region and constitute a clear violation of international law. We have said from the very beginning that we want Syria to stabilize because the Syrian people are tired of wars.’ Shaibani noted that they are in talks with all countries, especially the United States and Europe, for Israel to comply with the Separation of Forces Agreement signed in 1974, and said, ‘We appreciate Jordan's stance in rejecting Israel's interventions against Syria, which threatens the entire region.’
