Baker's life-size Stitch cake to celebrate Disney film release
A talented baker has won plaudits from Disney after she created a life-size cake of Stitch to celebrate the release of the latest film.
Mum-of-two Lara Mason, 39, made the large 3ft 'interactive' cake after seeing the excitement around the Lilo & Stitch movie trailer.
The 16kg bake took her a mammoth 30 hours to complete over a course of five days - and it even features an intricate working water gun.
Full-time baker Lara used 11 layers of toffee cake, filled with buttercream and coated in a chocolate ganache, to construct the huge Stitch at home with her husband Nick.
His detailed body is made up of 2kg of eggs, butter, flour, sugar and buttercream, with an extra 5kg in modelling chocolate and 1kg in chocolate ganache.
She spent eight hours alone just perfecting Stitch's iconic blue fur, using a dresden tool and even scissors to create the standout look of 'Experiment 626'.
And Disney fans worldwide lapped up her latest creation, with videos of the bake racking up a massive four million views over Tik Tok and Facebook.
Now the Hollywood giants have even got in touch with Lara to offer her tickets to see a sneak preview of the upcoming film in London.
Lara, of Brownhills, Walsall, West Mids, said: "Growing up we always watched the original cartoon version of Lilo and Stitch and this remake has got a lot of excitement around it. "
"After I watched the trailer there was a part when Stitch squirts water out of a water dispenser and it was hilarious, we just had to make it. "
"When we fitted our version to the cake, it came out with more force than I anticipated."
"For one of our projects, it's not that long of a time, as we've had projects take 100 hours. But it's just me and my husband Nick doing it. "
"It started off as a hobby and it spiraled out of control. "
"It takes many years of practice to get it right. For the fur we used a cake tool called a dresden tool and the triangle fur needs a pair of scissors. "
"Then a cleaning brush for the fur. I think that's why it took so long, because we wanted it to look so realistic. We spent eight hours on the fur alone, all in one day."
"For the water, we had a pipe running through the water dispenser for the water. "
"We originally attached it to a fish tank pump, but it was only trickling out, so we attached it to my husband's air compressor which provided quite a punch."
Lara, who has been baking cakes for over 13 years, says the creations are either eaten by her family or gifted to a foodbank.
Disney have invited the couple to attend a private screening at a cinema in London today (Tue).
Lara added:
"Disney got in touch and we've been invited to an advanced screening of the movie in London which is so cool. "
"I think now we've had 4 million views so it's doing well across socials, too. I did a Deadpool and Wolverine cake which went absolutely insane last year."
"I think we are classed as influencers now, it's an influencer screening."
