VARIOUS OF PALESTINIAN FLEEING WITH DONKEY CARTS, CARS, OR WALKINGKHAN YOUNIS, PALESTINE - MAY 20, 2025: Hundreds of Palestinian families have begun fleeing the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis following Israeli threats of expanded military operations. Witnesses reported that residents from areas including Bani Suheila and Abasan are walking on foot and using carts due to limited transportation and damaged roads. The displacement comes amid continued Israeli bombardment and warnings of broader attacks in the region. Local sources say the fear of intensified airstrikes has forced families to leave their homes in search of safer areas. Many of the displaced are seeking refuge in already overcrowded zones, carrying what few belongings they can, while aid access remains severely limited across Gaza. The Israeli army resumed its assaults on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 3,427 people and injured 9,647 others, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
