GLENDALE, Ariz. — Glendale police arrested two women on the night of March 8 after officers found four children alone in a Westgate parking lot and vehicle with no adult supervision, according to a post on the department’s official Facebook page.

Officers responded after witnesses saw a small child running through the lot and three others alone inside a car. Around 40 minutes later, two women returned and identified themselves as the children’s mothers. Officers said both women smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, and admitted to drinking at a nearby bar.

A bag of marijuana was found in the glove box, within reach of the children. Glendale Fire transported the children to a hospital for evaluation.

Police thanked the Good Samaritans who called in the report and reminded the public that leaving children unattended—especially while under the influence—is illegal and dangerous.
