Netherlands: Protest held in Netherlands against arrival of ship carrying F-35 parts from Israel
SHOTLIST ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS (MAY 21, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS MARCHING ON STREETS, CHANTING SLOGANS, HOLDING BANNERS AND FLAGSROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 21: On Wednesday, May 21, a protest was held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, against the docking of a ship carrying F-35 fighter jet parts from Israel at the Port of Rotterdam. Held in front of Rotterdam City Hall, the demonstration drew a large number of participants, most of whom were Dutch citizens. Protesters voiced their strong opposition to the arrival of the Maersk vessel, displaying banners bearing slogans such as 'Expose Maersk', 'Maersk profits from genocide' and 'We are all Palestinians – Cut all ties with apartheid Israel'. Protesters also carried placards bearing messages such as 'Boycott Israel', 'Your hands are bloody' and 'Stop the ships', and chanted 'Free Palestine'. During the protest, speakers recalled that a Dutch court had ruled the previous year to halt exports of F-35 components to Israel, citing violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza. However, despite this ruling, the protesters criticized the Rotterdam Municipality and port authorities for allowing the ship to dock via indirect routes, thereby contributing to the supply of weapons to Israel. They emphazised that the vessel is part of a military logistics chain that supports Israel’s arms industry. The protesters blocked the road and tram tracks in front of the city hall for a period of time, and then marched through the city centre. They later staged a sit-in at a busy intersection leading to the Erasmus Bridge.
