Moose Encounter Footage - Suburban Spokane
Occurred on April 26, 2025 / Spokane, Washington, USA
Info from Licensor: "I’m thrilled to share an extraordinary story and raw footage of a rare wildlife encounter that unfolded in our suburban Spokane, Washington, backyard. On a quiet morning, as our family enjoyed breakfast in our cul-de-sac home, our 9-year-old daughter’s screams alerted us to an astonishing sight: a mother moose and her two calves casually strolling through our backyard! Just an hour earlier, our 12-year-old had let our chickens out to free-range, unaware that a temporary fence—set up during repairs—would allow these majestic creatures to wander in. The moose, undeterred, explored our yard, hilariously getting trapped in the chicken pen, munching on bushes, and even peeking curiously around the house. We grabbed our cameras and captured every moment on camera, delivering raw, unfiltered footage that’s both heartwarming and comical.
The adventure didn’t end there. The next morning, our daughters opened their blinds to find the moose trio back again, just feet from their window, chowing down on our budding dogwood tree. They lounged on our neighbor’s lawn, chewing their cud, before eyeing our semi-dwarf peach tree, which was just about to blossom. Determined to protect our tree, we tried yelling and banging on the window—useless! But our daughters’ ingenuity saved the day: they found a 5-foot section of PVC pipe and blew into it, creating a bugle-like sound that sent the moose scurrying every time they approached. We have some footage of this.
This story has already captured local hearts, landing us a Zoom interview with Spokane’s KHQ news, featured in both 4 PM and 6 PM broadcasts (included in the link). The raw footage showcases the moose’s playful antics, our daughters’ quick thinking, and the sheer absurdity of moose in a suburban backyard."
