MANCHESTER, Conn. — A routine service call turned into a heartwarming rescue Tuesday night as Manchester Police and Fire Department personnel worked together to save a litter of kittens trapped in a storm drain.

While assisting Manchester Fire Department on an unrelated call, officers were alerted by a concerned resident that several kittens appeared to be abandoned and stuck in a nearby drain.

Responders quickly removed the drain grate and carefully retrieved the kittens. The animals were then transported to Bolton Veterinary Hospital for evaluation and care.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the kittens have been claimed or will be placed for adoption.
