Fighter jet landing gear collapses on runway in Mexico
A fighter jet's landing gear collapsed on the runway during a training operation in Mexico.
The Ministry of National Defence reported that the aircraft, belonging to Air Squadron No. 401, was conducting training exercises when the incident occurred.
Footage shows the Mexican Air Force F-5 aircraft tilted on the ground at Chihuahua International Airport on Monday, May 19.
An incident report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'A Mexican Air Force (FAM) Northrop F-5E Tiger II experienced a right main wheel puncture, resulting in a right MLG collapse during landing at Chihuahua International Airport (CUU/MMCU), Chihuahua, that houses the Military Air Base No. 13.'
The pilot was reportedly uninjured, and the aircraft sustained only minor damage.
Following the incident, the airport temporarily suspended operations to allow for the removal of the aircraft. Regular air traffic resumed at 4:30 pm the same day.
