Storyline: The Palestinian death toll from the Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has risen to 53,655, with 121,950 others injured, since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out in October 2023, Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Wednesday. Over the past 24 hours, Israeli strikes have killed at least 82 people and injured 262 in Gaza, the authorities reported. Since Israel resumed its military offensive on March 18, 2025, at least 3,509 Palestinians have been killed and 9,909 injured. According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday, 115 military targets had been attacked in Gaza over the past 24 hours, as part of an escalating military campaign. Israel's military also intercepted a projectile launched from the Gaza Strip, which triggered air raid sirens in the Lakhish area of southern Israel. There were no reports of casualties. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack. The escalating hostilities follow Israel's launch of Operation Gideon's Chariots on Saturday, marking a significant intensification of its 19-month military campaign in Gaza. On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that all areas of the Gaza Strip will be under Israeli security control and Hamas will be defeated by the end of the ongoing "Operation Gideon's Chariots."
