A mischievous kangaroo dubbed a ‘repeat offender' for escaping was caught again in Colorado.

Residents spotted Irwin, the runaway joey, trespassing into a nearby yard in Durango.

This prompted concerned locals to alert the police to retrieve the roo from their backyard on the morning of May 19.

Bodycam footage shows police officer Garrison petting the marsupial, which was cornered in an alleyway, before carrying it out of the premises.

He then carefully placed the animal in the passenger seat of the patrol car with its owner waiting inside, successfully containing the escaped kangaroo.

Irwin has a history of run-ins. He was previously spotted hopping on Main Street while wearing a diaper.

Since the kangaroo had grown since his last encounter with police, officers were forced to abandon previous methods of capturing him.

Durango police officer Shane Garrison said Irwin could no longer fit in the jacket pouch used last time.

The method of Irwin's escape is still unknown, but officers suspect he may be slipping out through a door.

Owning a red kangaroo as a pet is permitted in Colorado, but police are reminding owners to properly secure their animals to ensure the safety of both the pets and the public.
