Locals wade through waist-deep floodwater as torrential rain hits Wuhan
On May 22, Wuhan, Hubei Province, was hit by extreme torrential rain, with some roads submerged under more than 1 metre of water. The flooding led to vehicles being inundated and posed major challenges for commuters.
Since the night of May 21, Wuhan issued seven heavy rain warnings, upgrading to a red alert—the highest level of warning—at 4:19 AM on May 22, marking the first such alert of the year. The Hubei Provincial Meteorological Bureau also launched a Level 3 emergency response for major meteorological disasters (heavy rain).
