US: Cop Dragged 150 Feet By Fleeing Driver Carrying Over A Kilogram Of Drugs

Bradenton, United States - May 20, 2025 On May 20, 2025, Officer Shane Sharp attempted a traffic stop on the 1200 block of Martin Luther King Ave E. The driver, Lenny Macias-Rangel, pulled over but refused to turn off his car despite 12 requests. Officer Sharp tried to shift the vehicle into park, but Macias-Rangel put it in drive. The officer was pinned against the dashboard as the vehicle sped off, dragging him about 150 feet before crashing into a pole. A second officer arrived to assist, but Macias-Rangel resisted arrest and struck several officers. He was medically cleared and taken to Manatee County jail. Officer Sharp suffered a concussion, a separated shoulder, arm injuries, and minor leg injuries. He was released from the hospital and is recovering at home. Detectives found more than a kilogram of marijuana and 62 THC vape cartridges in Macias-Rangel’s vehicle. The 19-year-old faces multiple charges including aggravated battery on law enforcement officers, resisting arrest with violence, fleeing, drug possession with intent to sell, and driving with a suspended license. Macias-Rangel has a prior criminal history including domestic battery and fleeing law enforcement. The investigation continues.
