...COCHABAMBA, BOLIVIA - MAY 22, 2025: Supporters of former Bolivian President Evo Morales rallied in Cochabamba on Thursday, May 22, calling on the Departmental Electoral Tribunal to register him as a candidate for the 2025 presidential election. Following a demonstration in the city’s central 14 de Septiembre square, protesters marched to the tribunal building, demanding Morales be allowed to run despite legal and political challenges. After the Constitutional Court rejected Morales’s candidacy on the grounds of the two-term limit, hundreds of people — including coca growers and Indigenous communities — began a march from the Cochabamba region. As candidates for the general elections scheduled for August in the country begin to emerge, Morales's candidacy has been caught up in a judicial process. Evo Morales had resigned from the ruling Movement for Socialism (MAS), which he led for nearly 26 years. Morales had previously run for re-election, citing the 2009 constitutional reform. However, in 2023, the Constitutional Court ruled this to be unconstitutional, blocking a new presidential bid.
