PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Two officers with the Piscataway Township Police Department are being praised for their heroic actions after pulling an impaired driver from a vehicle stuck on train tracks just moments before it was hit by an oncoming train.

According to the department’s Facebook post, Officers D. Hinchcliffe and J. Ward responded shortly after midnight on May 12, 2025, to reports of a vehicle stopped on the tracks along New Brunswick Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the driver impaired and unable to follow commands to exit the vehicle.

Recognizing the immediate danger, the officers swiftly removed the driver from the vehicle—just seconds before a train collided with it.

Their quick action prevented what could have been a fatal incident. The department commended both officers for their prompt and courageous response.
