US, Los Angeles: Chino CHP Shoots One Person On 71 Freeway
Los Angeles, United States - May 23, 2025 05/23/2025 12:00 pm GMT-0700 CHINO, Calif. – Location: CA-71 Northbound just north of Butterfield Ranch Road. CHP officers received reports of a female pedestrian on the CA-71 around 11:50 a.m. Reports were also received that the pedestrian was armed with a knife. Officers responded and located the female just north of Butterfield Field Ranch Road. At some point during the encounter, an officer fired shots, and the officer's gunfire struck the pedestrian. It is unclear what led up to the shooting at this point. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital in an unknown condition. The shooting is under investigation at this time. Due to the shooting, the northbound CA-71 was completely shut down at Butterfield Ranch Road. It is unclear how long the freeway was shut down. The closure caused significant traffic in both directions and on nearby streets.
