The demonstration, organized by local residents and activists, condemned what they described as Israeli crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. Protesters carried banners reading "Stop the Massacre" and "No to Genocide," while chanting slogans such as "Israel is the mother of terrorism." Clashes erupted as police attempted to disperse the crowd, resulting in the arrest of at least two individuals for waving Palestinian flags. Among the speakers at the rally was Sheikh Raid Salah, a well-known Palestinian-Israeli civil rights leader. Another speaker, Idan Maoz, was also detained. Protesters framed the demonstration as "a moral and patriotic stand against Israel’s aggression in Gaza and the West Bank." The protest comes as Israel’s military resumed heavy strikes on Gaza breaking a ceasefire that had been in place since January 19. According to Palestinian sources, at least 3,747 Palestinians—mostly women, children, and elderly—have been killed since the renewed attacks, with over 10,552 injured. Since the start of Israel’s military campaign on October 7, 2023, the death toll in Gaza has reached 53,901, with 122,593 wounded, as reported by local health authorities. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans for a full-scale and permanent occupation of the Gaza Strip. Under the proposed strategy, Palestinian residents would be forcibly relocated to what Israeli officials have referred to as "humanitarian zones" in southern Gaza, where aid would be restricted to minimal survival supplies. Several far-right Israeli ministers have openly advocated for the destruction of remaining infrastructure in Gaza and the mass displacement of Palestinians to other countries. Writing by Sibel Uygun
