Powerful winds battered the Chinese city of Xi'an as a sudden storm swept through.

Dramatic footage shows heavy rainfall and strong winds battering Xi'an Xianyang International Airport in Shaanxi on Thursday, May 8.

A staff member was seen briefly checking outside as the freak weather continued to affect the area.

The Xianyang Meteorological Observatory issued a blue warning for high winds at around 4 pm, with winds expected to reach level 5 to 6, accompanied by gusts above level 8 and blowing sand or dust.

Local media reported leaks in the T5 Terminal following the storm, and some flights were delayed by up to half an hour.

The T5 Terminal had reportedly opened only in February.
