A massive fire broke out at the Kognoli toll plaza on National Highway 4 near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border after a speeding container truck crashed into the toll booth early Sunday.

The incident occurred near Nippani-Kagal, when a container truck traveling from Belagavi to Kolhapur lost control and rammed into the concrete divider at the Kognoli toll plaza. The impact reportedly caused a spark from the truck's battery, igniting a fire that quickly engulfed both the vehicle and the toll booth structure.

The driver managed to escape by jumping out of the burning truck just in time. However, the blaze completely destroyed two toll counters and gutted the truck.

Firefighters from the Nippani fire brigade rushed to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control.

The incident caused temporary traffic congestion at the toll plaza, with vehicles lining up on the highway until the situation was cleared.
