INTERVIEW WITH GAZA CIVIL DEFENSE RESOURCES DIRECTOR HALIN ISEFANGAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 25: An Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed at least two people and left several injured, Palestinian civil defense officials said Sunday, May 25. Officials said Colonel Ashraf Abu Nar, the Director of Civil Defense Operations in Gaza, and his wife were killed in the attack. The strike targeted a residential area of the densely populated camp. Mourners gathered outside Al-Awda Hospital for funeral prayers for Abu Nar and his wife. Colleagues and relatives described him as a key figure in coordinating emergency response efforts amid the ongoing conflict. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 53,900 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
