Heavy rain triggered widespread flooding in northern Thailand.

Footage shows murky floodwaters flowing through a residential area in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai, around 6 am on May 25.

Heavy downpours triggered the sudden deluge, causing rivers and streams to burst their banks and inundate nearby homes and roads.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
