A muddy flash flood overflowed from a river and submerged homes in northern Thailand.

Footage shows a large volume of brown water flowing through Mae Sa River in Chiang Mai on May 25.

Heavy downpours triggered the sudden deluge causing the bodies of water to burst its banks and inundate nearby properties and roads.

The bad weather caused Ob Khan National Park to temporarily close until the condition improves.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
