US, Los Angeles: Koreatown 1 Critically Injured in Structure Fire

Los Angeles, United States - May 26, 2025 05/26/2025 03:22 am GMT-0700 KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Koreatown early Monday morning in the 900 block of South Dewey Avenue, near the intersection of South Catalina Street and San Marino Street. Upon arrival, crews noticed a three-story apartment building with flames visible from one of the units. A rescue operation was quickly initiated at the front of the building, where first responders located one patient in critical condition who was transported to an area trauma center. According to the LAFD, the rescued patient from the burning structure has been identified as a 42-year-old homeless man who sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns to more than 50% of his body, as well as smoke inhalation complications. No other injuries were reported. The property is a two-story, boarded-up apartment building located behind the original three-story apartment. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
