Truck goes haywire driving in circles after motorway crash
This is the astonishing moment a truck spun around the median for 10 minutes after a car crash.
Footage shows the driverless six-wheeler doing doughnuts after being rear-ended by a speeding sedan in Kalasin in northeast Thailand, on May 22.
Shocked locals ran as the out-of-control vehicle rolled toward them before reversing in circles over the central divider. It later stopped when it ran out of fuel.
Police and medics arrived at the scene after receiving a report at 7 pm. They rushed the injured male sedan driver to a hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for the Mueang Kalasin Police Station said: 'We believe the cause of the crash was because of poor visibility. The truck may have been left in reverse gear before it was struck, jumpstarting the engine and causing it to move on its own.
'We will thoroughly inspect the scene and question those involved to determine the exact cause of the accident.'
Onlookers said the truck had been parked with its hazard lights on while road workers were painting traffic markings onto the newly constructed pavement.
An out-of-control sedan then crashed into its rear, sending it spinning across lanes.
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
