This is the dramatic moment a truck burst into flames during a police chase in Utah.

The driver was reportedly called in for reckless driving westbound on Interstate 70 at mile marker 67 on January 9, around 3:25 pm.

A deputy attempted to stop the truck, but it failed to halt, allegedly driving erratically, swerving, and wildly changing speeds.

One of the spike strips punctured a front tyre, and flames soon erupted from the vehicle.

Footage shows heavy smoke and fire billowing from the truck as it rolled to a stop.

The driver, identified as Sonny Garret, was then seen exiting the burning vehicle with his hands raised, surrendering to officers.

Lieutenant Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol said that impaired semi-truck drivers are rare but extremely dangerous.

Sonny is accused of driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

At the jail, deputies reportedly had to assist him with sitting, standing, and even drinking water.
