Animal lovers and their pets joined a colourful parade wearing fancy dresses and costumes.

Footage shows scenes at the 'Furries de Mayo' event, a playful counterpart of the traditional Flowers of May celebration that was tailoured especially for cats and dogs.

Participants strutted along a park wearing matching outfits with their furry friends in Manila, the Philippines.

Some wore long gowns with their pets on a leash underneath a floral arch they made at home.

Event-goer Vinze Cerda said: 'The Animal Kingdom Foundation celebrated their Furries De Mayo at QC Memorial Circle.'

Flores de Mayo, the original Spanish term used for Flowers of May, is a Catholic religious festival celebrated in the Philippines during the month of May. It honours the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, with flowers, prayers, and processions.
