Passengers rescued from stranded bus washed away by Myanmar floods
Passengers were rescued from a stranded bus that was swept away during severe flooding in Myanmar.
Footage shows two coaches attempting to cross the flooded Sintewa Creek on the road to Mandalay on Monday morning, May 26.
Suddenly, the strong current overpowered the second bus, causing it to tip over and become partially submerged.
Concerned villagers from the Taungtha Township rushed to the scene to help the trapped travellers and driver.
Onlooker Aung Win Thein said: 'Fortunately, the villagers worked together to rescue the passengers, including children and elderly people. No one was harmed.'
Local media reported that the bus was carrying more than 40 individuals when the incident occurred.
A resident said: 'When it rains, this creek becomes notorious. You have to be careful when passing through.'
Another clip shows kindhearted locals assisting distressed commuters away from the vehicle.
All passengers were safely rescued, and no injuries were reported.
Myanmar and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
