Buildings were evacuated as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck the Philippines today.

Footage shows workers from the National Police Commission and employees of the Department of the Interior and Local Government standing on the streets in Quezon City after the midday tremor on May 27.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the quake's epicentre was located in General Nakar, Quezon, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The earthquake, tectonic in origin, struck at 12:17 pm. Initial reports measured the tremor at magnitude 5.1, but PHIVOLCS later revised it to 4.6.

Although no damage or aftershocks have been reported so far, authorities warned that subsequent tremors could still occur.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
