Cabin crew try to fix reading light that failed mid-air in China
This is the moment the cabin crew tried to fix a reading light that failed mid-air.
The light fixture, attached underneath the overhead compartment, unexpectedly detached during the journey on a Hainan Airlines flight from Hefei to Chongqing in China.
Footage shows the flight attendant trying to reattach the component to the ceiling without success on May 13.
After several failed maintenance attempts, the crew resorted to securing the panel temporarily with tape.
One passenger aboard the Airbus A320 said it took several minutes to carry out the makeshift repair.
No injuries were reported from the incident.
The airline later issued a statement explaining the situation.
A spokesman said: 'The ventilation panel involved is part of the Airbus A320's passenger service components and mainly functions to ventilate the seat area.
'During flight, factors such as turbulence, aircraft vibrations, and seat adjustments can occasionally cause the panel to loosen or fall off. This is a relatively common minor issue and does not affect flight safety.
'After our flight attendants noticed the problem, they temporarily fixed it with tape. Once the plane landed, the panel was properly reinstalled to ensure passenger comfort.'
The airline thanked passengers for their understanding and reiterated their commitment to safety and comfort throughout every flight.
