ISSAM RIMAWI RECEIVING TREATMENT AT HOSPITALRAMALLAH, PALESTINE - MAY 27: Anadolu Agency (AA) photojournalist Issam Rimawi was assaulted by Israeli settlers while covering a raid in the occupied West Bank on Monday, May 27. Eyewitnesses said the settlers raided Palestinian farmland near the village of Al-Mughayyir, close to the city of Ramallah, where Palestinian farmers were harvesting crops. Clashes erupted between Palestinians and groups of settlers, prompting Israeli forces to intervene. The soldiers attempted to remove Palestinians from the area. Rimawi was attacked by the Israeli settlers as he was heading to his vehicle. Witnesses reported that he was beaten with sticks. Footage shared on social media showed Rimawi lying unconscious on the ground. He was transferred to a hospital in Ramallah for treatment. Since the start of the Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023, nearly 970 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers across the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The International Court of Justice declared last July that Israel’s longstanding occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal, and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Also, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing over 54,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
