A brave villager carried a giant python across his shoulders after it was caught slithering through homes.

Footage shows the brave snake wrangler parading the dead 22ft (7m) reticulated python across the street in Sidenreng Rappang, Indonesia.

The resident can be seen standing on the pavement with the 350lbs (160 kg) chunky snake dangling from his shoulder.

Reticulated pythons are the longest snakes in the world. They are non-venomous constrictors that kill their prey by coiling around it and suffocating it.

On April 1, a 66-year-old woman named Hasia was killed and swallowed whole by a 26ft python in South Sulawesi.

Just months earlier, on January 12, a 15-year-old girl named Marwah was rescued by villagers after being attacked by a 20ft snake near Polewali Mandar Regency.

Indonesia has a large population of pythons living in its lush forests. The plentiful sources of food have allowed them to grow particularly large.

However, increasing urbanisation and the rise of palm oil farms and rubber plantations have led to increasing conflicts with humans, often with the pythons coming out on top.
