Police are investigating after a dog had to be rushed to the emergency vet after eating suspected cannabis at a local park.

Stephanie Chamings, 38, was out for a walk with 18-month old Bonnie when the curious pup began eating something which appeared to be human faeces.

Within about two hours, Bonnie lost control of her bladder and struggled to stand up – leaving her distraught owner worried she would die.

The dog owner, who lives in Worcester, said: "She looked very vacant and very lethargic. She was taken to the emergency vets and put on a drip, by the end of the day we picked her up from the vets."

"When we brought her home she was still extremely vacant and unaware of her surroundings, and urinating herself very frequently."

"By the next morning – probably 24 hours after the event – she was starting to look normal again."

A retired vet, Stephanie's father suggested that Bonnie could have been poisoned with cannabis present in the human poo.

She said: "As soon as Bonnie fell ill, I reached out in community groups on Facebook, and I was actually approached by several people who said ‘this exact same scenario happened with my dog and all of the symptoms point to cannabis ingestion'."

"My dad's a retired vet and he said the same. The timeline of events fall in line with cannabis ingestion."

Now, local police have confirmed they're investigating the reports and will be searching people ‘if necessary' to put a stop to the problem.

Stephanie, who works for a dog welfare business, added: "When dogs ingest faeces of someone who has used cannabis, it can be very poisonous."

"She didn't die, but at the time it looked like she was dying. It was very, very scary."

"Nobody knows exactly what happened, all we know is it's happened to a lot of people in the exact same scenario."
