Floods washed away dozens of homes as heavy rain battered Indonesia.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that hundreds of residents were evacuated due to the deluge that submerged the Segah District area in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, on May 27.

Footage shows several houses with only their roofs visible being swept away by the flash flood.

Reports indicated that the worst flooding occurred in Long La'ai Village and Long Ayap Village, with water levels reaching around five metres.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center at BNPB, said: 'The strong river current and the logs carried by the flood have hampered land transportation access.'

The extreme weather event damaged one mosque, two churches, a health centre, an elementary school, a village office, an integrated health post, a PAUD (early childhood education center), and a pier in Long La'ai.

A total of 640 individuals from 212 families were affected.

BNPB urges the public to remain vigilant and prioritise safety. Residents are asked to follow the directions of officials regarding evacuation and avoid activities in flooded areas.
