Gull becomes local star for mimicking tourists' laughter at zoo in China
Recently in Anqing, Anhui Province, a Siberian gull at Tongcheng Zoo has gone viral online for mimicking human laughter.
A video shows the gull imitating a visitor’s laughter, even crouching down and throwing its head back in a motion that looks just like a person laughing—delighting viewers with its adorable and uncanny performance.
Zheng Congrong, director of Tongcheng Zoo, said the bird, named Bohao, has been a beloved zoo favourite for years due to its unique personality and entertaining behaviour.
In 2020, Bohao was rescued after being injured in the wild, resulting in the amputation of one wing. Despite the disability, Bohao lives a happy life at the zoo—interacting with other animals, occasionally stealing their food, and greeting familiar humans with a roaring laugh that resembles the exaggerated expressions in internet memes.
