EMAN SHABANGAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 28: The Israeli army's order to forcibly evacuate Al-Awda Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip was protested by healthcare workers on Wednesday, May 28. Gathering in front of the hospital's second branch located in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp, healthcare workers condemned the systematic targeting of vulnerable patients, hospitals, and medical staff. The demonstration was also joined by healthcare workers who had been evacuated from the northern Al-Awda Hospital last night through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza. Dr. Eman Shaban, who works at Al-Awda Hospital, said that they came together in support and solidarity with the healthcare workers. “They (healthcare workers) are currently continuing their humanitarian duties at the hospital here,” Shaban said. The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing over 54,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
