DR VICTORIA ROSE REVIEWING CONDITIONS OF PATIENTS AND WITNESSING FIRST HAND GROWING CRISIS INSIDE GAZA’S HEALTHCARE SYSTEMGAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 28: Hospitals are being overwhelmed amid severe shortages of medicine and equipment, as Israel’s ongoing blockade continues to choke the flow of humanitarian aid into the besieged territory, said a British doctor volunteering in Gaza on Wednesday, May 28. Dr. Victoria Rose, a surgeon working on a voluntary basis in Gaza hospitals, visited the Nasser Medical Complex in the southern city of Khan Younis, where she reviewed the conditions of patients and witnessed firsthand the growing crisis inside Gaza’s healthcare system. Since March, she said, there has been a complete blockade not only on food but also on medical supplies. Rose said hospitals cannot receive any equipment or medicine, even as the number of wounded continues to rise due to ongoing bombardments. She said the medical teams are forced to make do with what little they have left. Only three types of antibiotics remain available for use, she added, underscoring the desperate situation facing doctors and patients alike. The Nasser Medical Complex, one of the largest in southern Gaza, has been struggling to operate under relentless pressure, with limited electricity, overcrowded wards, and critical shortages of basic items like gauze, anesthesia, and surgical tools. As fighting continues and more civilians are injured daily, healthcare workers warn that without immediate and sustained access to medical aid, more lives will be lost—not from wounds alone, but from infections and untreated conditions. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 54,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
