VARIOUS OF ACADEMICS, ACTIVISTS, JOURNALISTS, AND HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS GIVING SPEECHES DURING PUBLIC SESSIONS OF GAZA TRIBUNALSARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA - MAY 28: On the third day, the Gaza Tribunal continued its public sessions in Sarajevo, focusing on the legal, political, and ethical perspectives of the war in Gaza and paying special attention to the question of genocide. Held at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), the day’s session centered on the theme “History, Ethics, and Philosophy,” with presentations exploring genocide as a state crime, ethnic cleansing, philosophical foundations of genocidal war in Gaza, forced displacement, resistance, Zionist narratives, and denialism. The gathering included academics, activists, journalists, and human rights defenders, such as Penny Green, Ayhan Citil, Ilan Pappe, Jeff Halper, Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian, and Henrietta Zeffert. Witnesses and experts also shared testimonies of war crimes committed in Gaza. Organized with the support of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Youth Forum (ICYF), the event brought together representatives from 66 youth organizations across 50 countries and Muslim minority communities. On Thursday, the tribunal will host a special panel titled "From Srebrenica to Gaza" and present the "Sarajevo Declaration," which was drafted with input from all participants. The Gaza Tribunal was formally launched in London in November 2024 by a coalition of academics, intellectuals, human rights advocates, and representatives from civil society organizations in response to what they describe as “the total failure of the organized international community to implement international law” in Gaza. Following the assembly in Sarajevo, the tribunal plans to hold its final hearing session in October 2025 in Istanbul. During this event, a Jury of Conscience will present a draft of the tribunal’s findings and decisions, drawing on testimonies from witnesses and statements from Palestinians affected by the crisis.
