This is the amusing moment an elephant tucked into ice cream from a street vendor in Thailand.

Footage captured by Phlai Chai Mongkol shows the ravenous tusker ambling along the road with its mahout in Surin province.

The owner can be seen buying the dessert for the sweet-toothed giant.

He then fed the avocado-flavoured ice cream to the beast before walking away down the motorway.

Elephants are known for their voracious appetite. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) reports they need to eat up to 150kg of food per day – the equivalent of 375 tins of baked beans.

Conservationists in Thailand say that wild elephants – numbering up to 3,500 – have even developed a taste for human food, often preferring it over the bland leaves found in the forest.
