SHOTLIST: BEERSHEBA, ISRAEL (MAY 29, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS MARCHING/ HOLDING BANNERS/ CHANTING SLOGANS 2. POLICE VEHICLE BLOCKING ROAD 3. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) KNESSET MEMBER, YOUSEF AL-ATAWNEH, SAYING: "Right now, in the heart of the city of Beersheba, in front of the so-called “Authority for the Development of the Negev Arabs” — which in reality is an authority for the displacement of Negev Arabs — demolitions, expulsions, and displacement that the Negev has witnessed over the past year. This campaign has escalated unchecked. Just last week alone, over 50 homes were demolished in the Negev. That is why we made the clear decision to stand in front of this authority — the authority of displacement and expulsion — to deliver a clear message with thousands of voices from the Negev: we reject this policy. The state must recognize the unrecognized villages in the Negev and acknowledge ownership of the land. We reject the policies of demolition, displacement, and expulsion in the Negev. Another message from this demonstration is the need to change the reality in the Negev. There is a discriminatory reality: while Jewish towns are being built, planned, and developed, Arab towns in the Negev are being demolished and their residents displaced. Entire Arab villages are being destroyed and, in their place, Jewish settlements are built. This racist policy must stop in the Negev." 4. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) REPORTER SAYING: "Do you believe the Israeli government will respond to your demands and those of the local people?" 5. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) KNESSET MEMBER, YOUSEF AL-ATAWNEH, SAYING: "The people of the Negev, since 1948 until today, have proven clearly that only through organized, sincere, and united struggle on the ground can we win our rights. We have previously succeeded in obtaining recognition for some villages in the Negev, and we will continue our struggle with determination — as rightful owners of this land, our homeland — without any hesitation. We firmly believe that we will prevail in this battle in the Negev, and that the historical villages of our fathers and grandfathers will be recognized." 6. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) REPORTER SAYING: "What are the future steps?" 7. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) KNESSET MEMBER, YOUSEF AL-ATAWNEH, SAYING: "This coming Saturday, there will be a meeting in the village of al-Sarrah, where demolitions have taken place. Hundreds of homes there are under threat of demolition. The meeting will involve the High Steering Committee for the Arabs of the Negev, the regional council, and heads of local Arab authorities. We will put together a united action plan to resist the policies of demolition, displacement, and expulsion in the Negev. There will also be further protests and demonstrations in Beersheba and in front of government offices in Jerusalem. In addition, we will reach out to European and international ambassadors to expose the true face of this government." 8. PROTESTERS TALKING TO EACH OTHER (TWO SHOTS) 9. PROTESTERS AT BUS STOPBEERSHEBA, ISRAEL - MAY 29: Hundreds of people living in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba gathered in front of the Beersheba Housing and Development Authority building on Thursday, May 29, to protest demolition policies targeting Arab communities in the region. The demonstrators reacted particularly to the increase in demolition practices over the past year and demanded an immediate end to these policies. Banners carried during the protest read, “Enough is enough, stop the demolitions, we want a dignified life” and “A home is a basic human right.” Knesset Member Yousef al-Atawneh from the Negev said, "The people of the Negev, since 1948 until today, have proven clearly that only through organized, sincere, and united struggle on the ground can we win our rights," to an Anadolu correspondent. On Wednesday, the Israeli Defense Ministry confirmed that the government approved the construction of 22 new settlements in the West Bank. A ministry statement said the new settlements will “strengthen the strategic grip on all parts of Judea and Samaria [West Bank]” and “prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.” The international community, including the UN, considers the Israeli settlements illegal under international law. The UN has repeatedly warned that continued settlement expansion threatens the viability of a two-state solution, a framework seen as key to resolving the decades-long Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land illegal and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
