Austin, United States - May 27, 2025 On May 27, a violent storm tore through downtown Austin, unleashing strong winds and heavy rain that caused widespread damage and power outages. Clayton Rogue captured the intense scene from a high floor in a building complex. His video showed powerful winds whipping through buildings as rain poured down. He commented, “Nice little storm just rolled through downtown Austin, TX.” The storm left nearly 60,000 Austin Energy customers without electricity by 10 p.m. Broken tree limbs and damaged electrical equipment contributed to the mass outages. Austin Energy warned that most outages would last overnight and some may take days to repair. Several buildings also suffered damage during the storm. At the Texas Capitol, a glass panel was shattered, and water leaked into parts of the building. In North Austin, the canopy of a gas station on Greystone Drive collapsed onto a car.
