If there is an announcement to be made, it will come from the White House, the President, myself, or Special Envoy Witkoff.” WASHINGTON, US - MAY 29: On Thursday, May 29, the White House has confirmed the submission of a U.S.-drafted ceasefire proposal for Gaza to Hamas, with the plan having received prior support and approval from Israel. During a press briefing, White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt addressed the ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding a potential ceasefire in Gaza. She verified that Special Representative Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump had conveyed the Israeli-approved proposal to Hamas leadership. Leavitt emphasized that Israel had endorsed the proposal before its transmission to Hamas and noted that negotiations on the matter remain active. When questioned about Hamas's response to the proposal, Leavitt stated she lacked current information on the group's position. She assured that official announcements regarding any ceasefire implementation would be made through proper White House channels. Earlier Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he accepted US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff’s outline for a Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange. Hamas confirmed on Thursday that it has received a new proposal from mediators for a Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange. No details were provided by the group about the new proposal. On Wednesday, Hamas said that it has reached an agreement with Witkoff on a general framework for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
