A violent storm swept through downtown Austin, leaving thousands of residents without power.

Dramatic footage captured by storm chaser Clayton Rogue shows heavy rain and intense winds battering buildings on May 28.

Reports said the sudden weather event left nearly 60,000 Austin Energy customers without electricity by 10 pm, as fallen tree limbs and damaged electrical equipment contributed to widespread outages.

Austin Energy warned that most outages would continue overnight, with some potentially lasting several days.

Several structures sustained damage during the storm. At the Texas Capitol, a glass panel shattered, and water leaked into parts of the building.

In North Austin, the canopy of a gas station on Greystone Drive collapsed onto a car.
