Storyline: China sees double-digit growth in air transport turnover in April [Voice_over] Recent data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China shows the country's total air transportation turnover sustained double-digit growth in April, driven in part by international routes. Transportation turnover refers to the total volume of passenger and cargo movement within a specific period, measured in ton-kilometers. In April, that number was 12.93 billion ton-kilometers. Of those, international passenger routes contributed to 4.93 billion ton-kilometers, an increase of almost 26 percent compared to the same period last year [Sound_bite] Zhong Shan, chief economist, Institute of Air Transport, China Academy of Civil Aviation Science and Technology: "The international (passenger) market has emerged as a bright spot this month, particularly with the rapid increase in inbound demand from foreign tourists. The market has recorded a growth rate of over 20 percent, effectively contributing to the overall positive development of the passenger transport sector for the month." Meanwhile, the continued expansion of China's foreign trade and growing ties with Belt and Road countries have further fueled the rapid growth of international air freight."
