A woman nailed her first-ever axe throw, splitting an axe handle that was already lodged in the bullseye.

Deborah Wills, 33, was attending a party at the Homewood Hotel and Spa near Bath, Somerset, where she is a member.

Having never tried axe throwing before, Deborah decided to give it a go and to her surprise, hit a bullseye on her very first attempt.

If that wasn't impressive enough, her second throw struck the handle of the first axe directly, splitting the wood in two.

Deborah, a former professional rugby player and gym manager in Oxford, Oxfordshire, said: "Everyone was just in total shock."

"I'm actually short-sighted so I only heard the sound of the wood splitting and genuinely couldn't believe it."

"My husband, who caught it on camera, was completely taken aback and the instructor said he'd never seen it happen before."

Deborah had no prior experience with axe throwing aside from a brief instructional session given by the event's instructor.

Each participant was given five axes to throw.

Deborah landed four bullseyes out of five and even topped the leaderboard for the entire group with her husband placing second.

Deborah said: "When the first one hit the bullseye, I thought it must be a fluke."

"But then with the second one, it just felt crazy."

"You're usually not meant to walk forward into that area where axes are thrown until you're done with your five."

"But after I split the other axe, the instructor said I could grab them."

"I definitely apologised for breaking the equipment but they understood it was a total accident."
