Buffalos hurtle along track dragging carts at annual race in Thailand
These were the chaotic scenes as buffalo hurtled along a muddy track at an annual cart racing contest in Thailand.
Footage shows the farm animals dragging carts as they bolted across the field while being cheered on by spectators in Phetchaburi on May 28.
Farmers spurred the bulls onward by poking them with sticks, causing their chariots to tumble as the frantic bovines stumbled on the race course.
Villagers converged on the field to control the agitated buffalo.
The scenes unfolded during the annual Ox Cart Racing Competition, a cultural event that celebrates traditional rural life and agricultural heritage in the region.
This year's festival also marked the 108th anniversary of Ban Lat District, adding extra significance to the celebrations.
In addition to the cart racing, the event featured a variety of competitions, including an ox cart parade, cow racing, wrestling cows to the ground bare-handed, pig catching, and a palm fruit cutting-and-eating challenge.
Booths throughout the venue showcased local culture, food, and products, while folk music and dance performances entertained crowds throughout the day.
Officials said the event aims to promote tourism and stimulate the local economy. Festivities are scheduled to continue until June 1.
